POPE FRANCIS AND THE NUMBER 13

                     Pope Francis and the
       Number 13

What’s up with Pope Francis and the number 13? All the following words that are under-lined, have thirteen letters, or numbers that add up to 13 to try and illustrate my confounding question.

It may have all started with St Shimon Peter (13).  He is commonly known as the “first Pope,” and was one of the Twelve Apostles(14).
Along with Paul, St Peter is honored in the Feast of Saints(13).  Peters life story can be found in The Book of Acts(13).  His name is mentioned by Saint Jean-Baptiste de La Salle (13X2). At the beginning of the Last Supper, Peter makes a big deal about the washing of feet (13)  performed by Jesus. The Denial of Peter (13,) seems to be a recurring theme in the latter part of the Bible. There is a special account of Jesus in the Gospel of Peter(13)

Though the date is disputed, many scholars argue that he died in 67AD (13) . This would make the rule of the Second Pope, Pope Linus, to reign from 67 AD to 76 AD (13 - 13). Analyzing the biblical references in Italian and Aramaic, we also get quite a few phrases with 13 letters.

But let us get back to Pope Francis. He is named after Francis de Assisi, a preacher from the 13th century. The founding of the Franciscan order coincided with the year they were officially recognized by the church in 1210 AD(13). It was in 1219 AD(13) that St Francis made his historic journey to Egypt to attempt to convert the Sultan of Egypt(13.) St Francis was canonized in 1228 AD(13).

The newest Pope, Papa Francesco (13), has ascended the holy throne at the age of 76 (13).  He claimed the papacy 13 days after the last Pope before him left. Before him were 265 (13) Popes, making him the 266th (14). The day his name was announced was March 13,  2013.

I am being yelled at by my thirteen wives so I must go now, but we will ponder this question later after I - wash the dishes(13).
