Mercury Rahutrograde

                                 MERCURY RAHUTROGRADE

Shadow Art by Kumi Yamashita

As Mercury retrograces,
check the words on their faces
that lead you into the mazes
where old contracts turned to chases
to re-capture the dreams
from the shadows of relations
eclipsed by a Moon
and planets that station
turn backwards to
turn back words
to release the fire
to extinguish the blazes
so the words that were planted
turn from time into places

By now you have all heard of the soon to be solar eclipse on Nov 3. To recap, Mercury will be retrograde in Libra along with a debilitated Sun, a potent exalted Saturn, a ghost Moon and a rampaging Rahu. To make the matter much trickier, an almost stationary Jupiter is deeply interlinked with Mercury. This makes the aspect of Jupiter act like an aspect of Mercury retrograde.

Time is the shadow of light
light is the shadow of God

Made of light, yet sculpted from darkness,
the body is the shadow of the soul

Form is the shadow of the mind
that creates the words that cast it

Thoughts are a shadow of what is spoken
words a shadow of our thoughts
Form is birthed from these two parents

The fruits of our future actions are the
shadows of the words we plant today

Expiration of breath is the
shadow of the inhalation of light

Health is the shadow of Yoga

Attachment is the shadow of desire
suffering is the shadow of attachment

True knowledge is the shadow of the Guru

Karma is the shadow of the past,
Dharma is the shadow of the future

Total annihilation is the
shadow of corporate greed

Fruit is the shadow of the seed

Contentment is the shadow of gratitude

The shadows of the past
Are the objects of the future
Cast by the light of the present

Everything is a shadow of Om

Love is the shadow of Creation

Dreams are the shadow of reality
Reality is the shadow of dreams

All of Mankind is a shadow of
the Earth, the Trees and the Rain

Emptiness is the shadow of form
Form is the shadow of emptiness

Habits are the shadows of repetition

Eternity is the shadow of Now
Here lies the shadow of eternity

Ghosts are the shadows of shadows

The soul will not be televised,
but your shadow will.

Shadows sleep in wombs of light born of day yet slayed by night. Shadows are echoes of light, ripples off the drops of stars, melodic remnants of form and creation.
What Rahu does with light during a Solar eclipse

The Solar eclipse on November 3, is being caused by Rahu, the North Node of the Moon.

Rahu is a planet who does not wish to follow the status quo. For Rahu, order is derived from chaos. The severed head of the shadow is not merely combatitive towards the light, but he has a profound creed in which to refute the dominance that the Sun and Moon have in our lives.

Rahu wishes to exercise his retrolutionary right to assert that it is not darkness that is born of light, but it is light that is born from darkness. It is not darkness that is a shadow of light, but it is light that is the shadow of darkness. Rahu argues that light is merely seen as a reflection of form, but darkness is seen as a projection from form. So, it must surely be the case that the immense darkness of space must be the shadow of some unfathomable giant form, to which whom, Rahu is related.

We are the shadows of our ancestors; tethered by that light, we have an obligation to them for our creation; and through our oblations to them, they in a sense, lie in our shadows as well.

We are the fish caught in the nets cast by our ancestors, but through our actions, we entangle, or nourish them in the webs we cast as well.

In this stream, some lineages hold that Rahu represents the paternal grandfather.

This may be because we are once removed from our grandparents, and the shadow is once removed from the light.

Rahu may act as a bridge to cross the severed routes of our psyche; to recover the akashic hard-drive that has slithered through the cracks of time, or the times we cracked; to visit sacred places, or to confront prejudices about foreigners or foreign concepts that are really the shadows of our ignorance eclipsed by fear, or the shadows of our fears eclipsed by ignorance.

Shadow Art by Tim Noble & Sue Webster

Rahu creates a necessary, yet often abstract intimacy with objects and relations that appear foreign, but are critical for our transformation and  evolution.

Earth Day Earth Devi - Goddess Earth

               Earth Devi - Goddess Earth

Prithvi-Mother Earth

When reading Vedic literature, one can sometimes be overwhelmed by the varied amount of gods and goddess. Despite the daunting task of remembering all the saints and sages, one divine being mentioned throughout Vedic text is easily remembered– Mother Earth, also known as Prithvi or Bhu Devi.

It is commonly known that when Vishnu incarnates as an avatar, Laksmi is said to incarnate as well. When he appeared as Krishna she was Rukmini, when he appeared as Rama she was Sita, When Vamana she was Kamala, and when he was Parashuma she was Dharani.

But Vishnu has two wives. Sri Devi, an aspect of Lakshmi and Bhu Devi, an aspect of the goddess Earth. Bhu Devi can be found throughout all of the incarnations of Vishnu as pervasively as Lakshmi.

The following accounts from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and various Puranas have many different versions, so they may differ from stories you have read or been taught.
Bhu Devi :  Mother Earth and the Ramayana

Sita found in Earth Thai depiction
                                               Sita Born of Earth
The region of Mithila had been stricken with a severe drought and famine. As a remedy (upaya) to alleviate the famine, the sage Gautama Muni instructed King Janaka that if he ploughed the fields himself, the rains would come, and the land would once again become fertile. As King Janaka ploughed the fields his plough hit something beneath the earth. Upon inspection he discovered a chest (pot). Within the chest, wrapped in a cloth, he discovered a baby girl who he called Sita. Sita, was said to be born of Bhu Devi (mother Earth).

                                        Sita returns to the Earth

Upon being rescued from Ravana, when Sita reunited with Rama there were many rumors regarding her chastity while she had been held in captivity. Fed up with the slander, Sita vowed that if she was in fact telling the truth the Earth would swallow her. Soon after, a crack formed in the earth and Sita merged back with Mother Earth.

Bhu Devi: Goddess Earth and Krishna I

Not being able to stand the wickedness of men any longer, goddess Earth in the form of a cow, approached Brahma and Vishnu to ask for assistance with managing the wickedness of men. Upon hearing the cries of Mother Earth, Brahma and Vishnu agreed to incarnate as Krishna to thwart the evil of men.

Bhu Devi:  Goddess Earth and Krishna II

Over 5,000 years ago, Mother Earth was feeling victimized, exploited and harassed by men. She approached Indra to express the discontent she was experiencing at the hands of mankind. Disconcerted, Indra said, “ Bhu Devi, I am sorry but this evil is great and beyond me, let us seek the advice of lord Brahma.”

Indra and Goddess Earth traveled to the abode of Brahma and the goddess explained her plight. “ Lord Brahma, Kali Yuga is approaching and men have forgotten righteousness and honor. They are trashing the Earth, lack any form of compassion, and are destroying dharma, please offer us some assistance.”
Brahma pondered the plight of the Earth for a few moments and said, “ The evils of man are growing, we must confer with Vishnu to find a resolution.”

Brahma, Indra and Bhu Devi (Mother Earth) traveled to the abode of Vishnu where Brahma pleaded the case of Mother Earth to Vishnu. “ Vishnu, I believe it is time you must incarnate once again on Earth to eradicate the evils of mankind,” said Brahma.

Vishnu looked disturbed. After sadly pondering this problem for a few moments he slowly rose and said, “ Incarnating is not a nice experience. Last time I incarnated, I suffered greatly as Rama. If I must reincarnate in the world of men to assist Bhu Devi I will, but this can only be done if we get clearance from the Divine Mother (sometimes referred to as Maha Maya, Yoga Maya and other epithets), pray to her and if she advises it I…I will incarnate once again”

Divine Shakti Revealed as the Power behind the Gods

Brahma, Vishnu, Indra and Mother Earth devoutly prayed to the Divine Mother, and she appeared before them in a soft cascading array of splendorous light.

With a devout and humble pranam Brahma pleaded to the Divine Mother, “ Dear Mother, the goddess Earth is being destroyed by the wickedness of man, you have helped to vanquish the worst evils in the past please help us once more.”

Indra then stepped forward, bowed, and humbly spoke, “O Mother, it is only through you that anything can be accomplished we are only here through your help. We seek your protection and blessings in these dark times.”

As they all spoke, the Divine Mother silently watched with the disposition of a candle’s flame.

Vishnu humbly approached, and with a bowed head offered gifts and sacred gestures and said, “oh great Divine Mother, you are the shakti behind Brahma, Shiva and even me, we cannot embark on the task of erasing the evils that men have done without your sanction.”

With a silent grace gently resting on her face, the Divine Mother spoke, “ I have some time ago decided this must be. Kasyapa will be born as Vasudeva, as a member of the Yadavas. Because of the curse once levied by Sage Bhrigu, Vishnu will be born in a prison as son of Vasudeva. My Shakti will pervade Balarama and Krishna, and the evil will reap their wickedness.”

Thus, Krishna was born over 5,000 years ago to come to the aid of Mother Earth.

Of course, Mother Earth was complaining about many people including Kamsa, Naraka, Salva, Dhenuka, Vatasaka, Sishupal, Jarasandha and others.

The demon Hiranyaksha had absconded with the Goddess Earth and dragged her to the nether regions of Rasatala in the ocean. Vishnu incarnated as Varaha and descended to the oceans and rescued Mother Earth from the vile demon. As Varaha(Vishnu) and Mother Earth rose from the murky depths the love between them was so intense that they began a divine coupling like eagles in flight.

After they had risen from the ocean, their enraptured union caused mountains, hills and valleys to form on the flat Earth. With the essence of the divine goddess permeating his aura, Varaha thrust his tusks into the earth causing plants and trees of all forms to spring forth. But an unforeseen consequence of their copulation in the shadowy depths of the ocean was that the demon Naraka was born.

Naraka craved ultimate power and command over all, so he embarked on extreme austerities to obtain them. After many decades, he had done so much penance that Brahma appeared before him. Reluctantly, Brahma approached the unscrupulous yogi and spoke, “ You have done an innumerable amount of austerities, I will thus grant you any desire you wish.”  Naraka commanded, “ Great Brahma, I wish to be invincible and unconquerable. I wish to never fall at the hands of death.”

Brahma replied, “ This is against the laws of nature. I will make you invincible, except that you can die under one condition – if it is at the hands of your own mother Goddess Earth”

Almost immediately upon receiving his divine boon, Naraka embarked on a reign of terror. He and his thugs went to and fro murdering, pillaging and causing great distress to women.

Naraka and Krishna-Wiki
One of the wives of Krishna was Satyabhama. No one realized, but she was secretly the incarnation of the Goddess Earth.

During a fierce engagement with Naraka's army on the battlefield, Krishna asked Satyabhama to hold the reigns of his chariot while he journeyed to battle Naraka. Satyabhama was not inclined to battle, but when an arrow from Naraka struck Krishna’s armor, he feigned that he had been felled. Satyabhama, in a rare show of anger to protect her saintly husband, grabbed Krishna’s bow and with a single shot quickly pierced Naraka with an arrow.

Thus, the invincible demon Naraka was vanquished by his mother the Goddess Earth in the form of Satyabhama. The second day of the holiday Diwali, Naraka Chaturdasi celebrates the extinction of this demon at the hands of the Goddess Earth.

                                 Goddess Earth: Prithvi

Prithu-Prithvi Wiki
For many aeons, the goddess Earth provided for all of mankind in an inexhaustible abundant manner, but when she saw that mankind began trying to monopolize the riches she gave freely, she retreated in sadness and anger. As she retracted her spirit from the earth, no plants flowered and not one seed sprouted. Countless humans began to starve and waste away. Witnessing this wide spread famine, Vishnu descended to Earth in the form of Prithu.

Prithu pleaded with goddess Earth, but Bhu Devi turned herself into a cow and ran away. Growing frustrated, Prithu gave pursuit and even threatened to shoot the Earth Mother with an arrow to get her to comply. “I do not wish to support those ungrateful evil humans any longer, and if you strike me down with an arrow, you will also strike down the Earth itself” Prithvi said.

“ Please forgive me, It is my duty to preserve and protect humanity. Please give me a chance and I will change their wicked behavior, instill respect for cows, and I will establish dharma throughout the land,” said Vishnu in the form of Prithu.

Prithu then began to teach righteous economics throughout the land. He was the first human to teach fair trade, sustainability and biodynamic and organic farming. He wrote the Dharma Sutras to teach mankind proper ethics, and taught respect for the environment.

Bhu devi became pleased with his progressive environmentalism, and called her self Prithvi as a term of endearment to honor her new friend Prithu.

Kali, Tara, Parvati and many other goddesses all have aspects of the Earth mother.

THE ZODIACAL NEW YEAR 2013 4/13/2013

                The Zodiacal New Year 2013
                  The U.S. and North Korea

                                   The U.S

According to Lahiri ayanamsha, The Zodiacal new year, or Solar new year, commences April 13, 2013 at approximately 3:48 PM EDT in Washington D.C.

Day is Saturday, on Chaturthi tithi: This indicates military tensions, moving away  from a bumper crop year. Moon in Krittika is auspicious. Ayushman yoga inaugurates the year as an indicator of health and happiness.

The regal sign Leo rises at the moment of the New Year, along with the lunar mansion of Purva Phalguni. The Sun is strong in the 9th sign along with the impulsive and martial Mars, the ministerial Venus, and the subdued explosive Ketu. Purva Phalguni gives America the possibility of victory in creation; victory by providing and inventing comfort for those in need.

In the U.S., The stage is set for a year of spirited progress in all matters sacred and scientific, as well as the ability to transform our initiative and drive into spiritual and scientific endeavors. The Sun in the 9th with Mars, Venus and Ketu indicate transforming the institution of marriage back into a spiritual right of passage, instead of the legislative mess it has become. There is the potential to transform our relations into a divine cooperation instead of a divided corporation. The planets provide us an opportunity to align our soul with the duality of desires which normally catalyze a polarized swing away from spirit.

Padsaworn Wannakarn
Jupiter and the Moon are placed in the 10th sign, indicating an expansion of global trade with a measure of corporate conservativeness. Jupiter and Moon are the intuitive powerhouses, so look inward before you act outward. In the field of your occupation; move from your feelings, and feel before your movements.

It is a Vijaya year, ruled by Ahirbudhnya and Uttarabhadrapada. Shastra tells us Vijaya years are moderately positive with progress and prosperity available to people, as well as an ample harvest indicated. As Ahirbudhnya rules over the current guru yuga, it indicates progress in research and discovery, and the uncovering of many mysteries that have laid dormant in the recesses of our ignorance.

Having most of the planets in the 9th and 10th houses shows a positive and progressive year for the U.S. in 2013. It indicates an expansion for many industries in the international arena, and a regal positive image projected to the world.

Though it will be an expansive year for the U.S. government, it will be a disaster in the realm of spies, Internet attacks, and fiscal fortitude. Mercury is the lord of the 2nd and 11th houses of wealth and profit, but he is debilitated in the eighth house of defaults, bankruptcies and war. This indicates that the legislative policies, and structure of the finance/banking system of the U.S. is severely flawed.

Mercury as the splicer, clone, dualist indicates that the food (2nd) ingested by the society (11th), is spoiled and contaminated (8th house) by legislative shadiness and genetic manipulation – Mercury debilitated. Classically, Mercury in Uttarabhadrapada creates disease, drought and anxiety.

The third house of communications in cities and villages (Libra) has retrograde Saturn conjoined a camouflaged Rahu. Saturn rules the 6th and 7th houses of enemies and partners, showing that the partners of the U.S. government may very well be their enemies, and their enemies may be their partners. This combination indicates that there will be a large degree of mineral and oil exploitation and contamination by the enemies, as well as corporate partners of the U.S.

Damage due to tornadoes and hurricanes will displace many in the U.S.
Danger to foreign diplomats and ambassadors is indicated.

                                     North Korea

North Korea has Mercury debilitated in the rising sign, which happens to be the 8th house of the U.S. Solar new year chart. This is concerning, for the U.S. has the 7th lord exalted in the 8th house of the North Korean chart, while North Korea has the 7th lord debilitated in the 8th house of the U.S. chart. Along with it being an indicator of military conflict, it is reflective of the dynamic we have witnessed recently – were the U.S. looks weak to allow such preposterous sabre rattling, while North Korea looks strong to be able to rattle such a larger prestigious foe. This indicates that military tensions will come to a head May 4th –May 21st.

Mercury in the rising of the North Korean zodiacal new year chart reflects the inane childish remarks communicated to the media by their leader; while Sun, Mars and Ketu strong in the second, indicate that he will not let up his aggressive rhetoric anytime soon. This also indicates that the main drive and desire of the North Koreans is profit and funding, and that the politicians have quite a sizeable racket going on filling their coffers.

                                                 India

For India, the lord of the ascendant is in the 5th house, but in the 6th rashi. The 7th lord is debilitated. This indicates that India’s greatest impediment is it’s legal system derived from the British. It indicates that it cannot truly go forward with its global partners unless it totally overhauls this antiquated legal system.  Saturn retrograde in Libra in the 11th indicate that India's greatest profit can come from a complete restructuring of it's infrastructure.

As 7th lord is fallen in the 4th, this indicates turmoil in the traditional institution of marriage, and how it relates to the perception of family.

Though Mercury is in the 4th sign, it is in the 2nd house. This indicates that the education system must be seriously overhauled to tap the potential of its brilliant youth. This is also indicated because of four planets in the 5th sign that actually occupy the 3rd house. This indicates that politicians are making a killing at the expense of the new generation, and if the masses educate themselves, then India can solidify its rightful place as one of the greatest nations on Earth.

The rising sign is in Uttarashadha – the latter victory, final victory. This points to many things, but foremost for this chart, it indicates the immense promise and creative potential of the coming generation of India’s youth.

                                      !HAPPY SOLAR NEW YEAR!
